INVEST, Humphrey Fellows Meet NIDA Officials and Tour NIH
NIDA Hosts Foresight Brain Science, Addiction and Drugs Project
Are improved treatments for addiction, new treatments for disorders like schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, and cognition enhancers in our future? Representatives from Foresight, the British government’s science-based think tank, presented results from the group’s Brain Science, Addiction, and Drugs Project at a NIDA Director’s Seminar on September 26, 2005, at NIDA headquarters.

Are you looking to network and build international research collaboration? Are you looking to share your research findings? Participate and submit your abstract to the 2006 NIDA International Forum. The 2006 International Forum will be held in conjunction with the 68th Annual Scientific Meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD).

WHY?
The NIDA International Forum is the venue where you will find excellent opportunities to network with talented colleagues in your field, learn about drug abuse research and policy issues in other countries, and receive updates on NIDA-supported fellowships and other programs that support international collaborations.
A limited number of travel awards is available to participants whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation at the NIDA International Research Poster Session. This award provides partial support to cover the registration, transportation, and lodging costs associated with the 2006 NIDA International Forum and CPDD meetings.

Funding Opportunities
International Research Collaboration on Drug Addiction, PA-06-050
NIDA has reissued this Program Announcement soliciting collaborative research proposals on drug abuse and addiction that take advantage of unusual talent, resources, populations, or environmental conditions in other countries; speed scientific discovery; and meet NIDA research priorities. Applicants may propose investigations using the NIH Research Project (R01) mechanism. The new announcement, PA-06-050, uses standard receipt dates and expires January 3, 2009.

NIDA International Program
The NIDA International Program fosters international cooperative research and the exchange of scientific information by drug abuse researchers around the globe. International scientific collaboration in drug abuse research is fostered through different exchange programs including the INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellowship, the NIDA Hubert H. Humphrey Drug Abuse Research Fellowship, and the Distinguished International Scientist Collaboration Program.
- INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellowship applications are still being accepted for the October 1 deadline!
• Application Deadlines: April 1 and October 1
• Notification of Award: June 1 and December 1
• Fellowships awarded in June must begin by December 31 of the current year.
• Fellowships awarded in December must begin by June 30 of the following year.
